The A-Town Get Down was named for Alex Townsend (”A-Town”), a highly creative artist and musician who tragically died at the age of 21.
Growing up, like many creative children, Alex sometimes struggled to fit into a traditional school and social setting. But he always had music and art as a place to go, to become engaged, and to express himself. As he grew older, he discovered and connected with many other teens and young adults who shared both his struggles and his passions.
Alex was known for constantly encouraging and inspiring those around him to use their art to reach their creative potential. With unbridled energy and soaring spirit, Alex lived life to its fullest, always believing in his art and the power of the imagination.
The A-Town Get Down® is a series of art and music events in Savannah, Georgia, where accomplished artists can perform for aspiring ones, and aspiring ones can perform for accomplished ones. The result is mutual inspiration, greater self-esteem and greater confidence for creative youth. The festivals combine live music, live art, and workshops on topics related to creativity.
